The Royal Hawaiian
WELL, I NEVER
Quick and dirty because mama's gotta meet a friend for harbor cocktails, okay?
"Wait, that doesn't look like Oakland," you might be thinking.
You'd be right! Turns out going from 0 mph to 60 mph when you haven't blogged for three months straight is kind of a bad idea, but I'm going to do my best, y'all. (Even if it means sort of maybe-definitely cheating with FFAFs in the queue that I haven't quite gotten to yet!)
This glorious place is The Royal Hawaiian in Waikiki, and not only is it stunning and VERY VERY PINK, it's also got fantastic restaurants, views and oceanfront vibes. That is to say it doesn't really feel at all like you're surrounded by the complete and utter madness of Waikiki, even though you definitely are.
Plus, I cried all over a very kind girl working in a really cute boutique there when I was looking for a waterproof bag before a catamaran ride and she wasn't bothered by it at all. She not only found me the bag — the folks at Aloha Collection are mad geniuses for creating these beautiful but functional and super effective pouches! — but also reassured me that she still talks to her mom every day even though she graduated from college last year and is still living in Honolulu.
And that yes, it was really hard being away from her mom at first and GUYS, CALL YOUR MOMS*, OKAY!?
*But only if you have adequate boundaries for less than ideal or borderline unhealthy relationships with them and still choose to continue communication of your own volition and are aware of the risks involved, or obviously if you happen to be fortunate enough to have outstanding or even just fine and plainly loving mothers.
Maybe let's just stick to photos, that got pretty real.
Speaking of sailing, Maita'i Catamaran was THE BEST. We decided to hop on their fun midday barefoot Tradewinds Sail on a 47' cat, and they made us these excellent Mai Tai x mimosa things and I got to sit as far up front on the net as I wanted and they jumped all these enormous rock 'n roll waves en route to Diamond Head and I got soaked from head-to-toe and saltwater totally got into my drink and ruined it but it was so, so worth it. Breathless run-on sentence worth it!
The before and after photos of going from dry and composed to drenched and giddy are hilarious:
This dress is from Barrio Vintage, the swimsuit peeking out from underneath is a fantastic red laser cut number with iridescent tulle detail from La Perla Beachwear (similar in Navy/White or Black), the pretty soft gold Lillian wedge sandals are J. Crew (RIP, they died en route to the sail!) and the sunnies are F21.
Swimsuit is also here with cutoffs standing on a sea wall waiting for the waves to get me! Maybe not the cleverest, but SUPER FUN.
Hope all you Bay babies are enjoying the long overdue summer weather this evening!
