Smiles & Stripes
How about that pic of the Charles River at sundown last night, hm? Pretty, pretty.
Happy 4th of July! We've had a very productive morning and are just about ready to settle in for some much-needed pooltime before our sunset sail to see the Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular this evening. The feels-like temp is nearing 100°F and it's the only way a person can get some relief around here. Hope the weather's a little more merciful wherever y'all are, and that skies are clear as a bell tonight!
This time last year we were hauling ass from Chicago, IL to Erie, PA. Two days from closing on the house. I remember how deliriously happy I was that we made it just in time to check in and race down to the Bayfront just as the fireworks show on Lake Erie began!
It's the second day of my R29 31 Outfits in July Challenge. Without further ado...
Day 2: "Want to bust out your major mini but are concerned about appearing too "club-ready" for the daytime? Cover up with a long-sleeved blouse in a complementary color. And don't forget the fun flats (don't worry, you can change into heels once the sun sets!)."
Well, I ended up in heels prior to sunset, but that's OK since I threw on a brightly striped pair of J. Crew shorts in lieu of a miniskirt I don't own (but am now kind of thinking I need in my life). I put two separate clients in these shorts last month and had to have them myself. They're just so cheery and wonderfully textured in person. Pairing them with a soft chambray shirt from The Gap gave it a sharp contrast, and tall suede sandals in nude keep legs looking long. I would have loved to do a dressier silk in a nice coral or rose shade, but honestly it wasn't that much cooler yesterday and I wasn't going to wreck a silk blouse by sweating all over it.
I kept pops of coral in the Kiel James Patrick knotted rope bracelet and these Jewelmint statement earrings, and what I'm referring to as a fresh "rah-rah-regatta" red mani/pedi. Disclaimer: I reserve the right to ponytail when it's above 90 degrees. (At least I wrapped it!)
And that's about it! Gimme your embellished miniskirt suggestions - I wish there was a version of this sweater or this one in mini form, so if you've seen anything similar, let me know. Most of my minidresses have 3/4-length sleeves, and I tried pulling on and knotting a long-sleeved blouse over before settling on this, but lord have mercy it was just far too hot for all that.
It was so lovely at sunset last night. Look at the sweet geese floating on the river!
The next challenge is a DIY romper, so come back tomorrow for a doozy.
