First Things First
Salutations, weirdos! I suppose the most important order of business is that I'm home, and by that I mean at long last back in the golden state of California.
It feels amazing.
Somehow I've taken the entire whirlwind summer off; the last post is from Memorial Day weekend, and here we are on the eve of a long Labor Day weekend. I've traded in jaunts to the Cape with treks to the Russian River — it's my second this summer and we only just got here!
There's a darling cabin out there, nestled in the redwoods with our name on it, and thanks to the last Summer Friday of the season, we'll have a little bit of a head start on our way out today. No bemoaning the dog days here since things are just now warming up!
On one of the last times we stayed in Monte Rio, the petite was a tiny little babycat, lost a tooth, and we very solemnly watched as she chucked it unceremoniously into the roaring heat of a chiminea out on the cottage patio. It was stocked with a vintage set of James Bond novels and VHS tapes and our sweet Chipotle posed outside with a bandana on for a whole 10 seconds without trying to murder anything that moved.
Now we're officially empty nesters. The kiddo is not only out of her braces, but a bona fide freshman in college on a tropical island as a pre-business major, and I haven't seen her in twelve whole days. It's our second weekend without her home, and all I want is a quiet spell riverside, with a hot tub and puzzles and rosé and to go easy on my tender heart.
September CHALLENGE: 30 Days, 30 Dresses
Now that I'm back and it's somehow September, let's kick things off with a super fun project inspired by a magical femme friend of mine, who documents 30 different dresses for 30 days during the month of September each year (with no repeats, year over year, just to make it even tougher).
Fingers crossed that it'll be more successful than that one time I tried to execute a month's worth of summer outfits as dictated by Refinery29!
This chipper vintage dress is from The Garment District in Cambridge, but I almost let it go recently (I have been thoroughly and mercilessly purging my entire wardrobe). This was going to be the last day I wore it, but so many women stopped me to say how much they loved it that I decided it could stick around a little longer. It definitely deserves a closer look!
The sporty heeled sandals are from the good people at Clarks, who sent me a pair of their 'Pastina Lima' shoes to kick around in this summer. They are impossibly light and airy, and unbelievably comfortable to strut around in. They come in a soft pale grey, too, or in a similar version in tan and white.
Sporty isn't something I sport (LOL) outside of the gym or my beloved barre classes, but I do genuinely love these and their versatility, in terms of both form and function.
Come back to see the dress for Day 2: A gorgeous, gilded linen number from J. Crew!
Good night, sweet angels!
