Before y'all ask...yes, that's snow on the ground (and in my hand). Yes, that's a spring skirt and yes sir or ma'am, those are my pale bare legs. This is what it's come to, my friends. The feels-like is 42°F and that means pairing cashmere with cotton in an attempt to tip the scales. If it were that chilly back in San Francisco I'd use it as an excuse to wear a vintage fur, not eschew tights altogether!
How times have changed. I was perfectly comfortable moseying around this morning to get coffee and head to the SoWa Vintage Market, my new favorite place in all of Beantown. Three huge, connected rooms blaring great soul and blues music with dozens of vintage vendors selling housewares, clothes, furniture, old records, and beautiful art. We heard John Lee Hooker and the Alabama Shakes!
I'm so glad it happens almost every weekend, it can replace our old habit of popping into the Alemany Flea in San Francisco. It also doesn't hurt that Roxy's has their food truck parked outside, selling gourmet grilled cheese and rosemary truffle fries. It smells like heaven and is the perfect fix after shopping all that vintage awesomeness! (Apparently they have a grilled cheesecake that needs to get in my damn mouth ASAP!) It's such a lovely way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
Check out this vintage beauty I scored today! It's a sturdy gold compact shaped like a cat's head, bejeweled and mirrored inside. It's in perfect condition and still has traces of sweet-smelling powder in the bottom. The kind elderly woman I bought it from gently explained, "It's from when ladies still powdered their noses," and I just nodded politely, not mentioning that this lady still sometimes powders her nose!
I feel like it's the absolute crown jewel of my femme beauty collection, and I'm going to slip a Besame Cashmere Pressed Powder refill underneath the dainty removable pink screen so I can carry it around and really use it. With a compact this gorgeous, why not powder your nose at the table?
The other dreamy find from today is this weekender bag. US-made, super sturdy, the prettiest honeyed leather (or faux leather, I honestly cannot tell) with great subtle gold piping on the trim. Great little brass details, too. I got it for a steal almost the minute I walked into the market, and anytime I set it down to browse the racks or chat with someone, I'd end up fighting off folks who wanted to snap it up themselves! I finally had to stop it because I couldn't deal with how heartbroken those folks kept getting!
I've also cut my hair again, did you notice? Good old Shag! My hair is finally more or less all one length, and all it took was one whole year. Of course, that's plenty of time to have gone by so that I'm now craving the very bangs I've been trying to get rid of since 2011. Sometimes I'm convinced that the other womanly cycle is wanting the sort of hair that's polar opposite whatever you've got on your head at the moment.
OK, let's get down to the nitty gritty:
Skirt: Duro Olowu for JCP Sweater: Everlane Cashmere Shoes: Hautelook (Marco Santi) Necklace: H&M Wooden Bangle: Pier One Spotted Bag: Madewell Earrings: Lauren G. Adams Weekender, Rings (blue and green), Beaded Bracelet: Vintage
That's it for now, hope everyone enjoyed their weekends!
PS. To the brave soul who came over to say hello at Videodrome Discothèque on Friday night, it was so lovely to meet you! How cool was Madonna night?!
