M snapped these on a little walk around our neighborhood in mid-September. I'd just had a few inches snipped off my hair that day, which is why it's even glossier than usual. (In hindsight I wish I'd gone even shorter, closer to the length I was way back in April.) I'm trying to get it all to one length, more or less, but my top layer is about jawbone-length and my hair hasn't been that short since M first met me way back in 2005!

This is the lovely Orla Kiely dress I got for a song at a local shop near our house. It's a heavyweight silk crepe and I should probably have it taken in quite a bit, but the awesome belt cinches things in nicely for now. I just adore it - the magical sailboat print, the silhouette, how it's perfect on its own in warmer temps but will be fantastic under my Brooks Brothers shawl-collar cardigan or a snug, creamy v-neck sweater with the collar peeking out during cooler months.

Or you can just toss a tough leather jacket on over it and call it a day! Bam.

My little wicker-and-patent-leather clutch from J. Crew went along nicely, as did these dusty suede ankle boots from Trouvé - I love the smoky gray and rich brown stacked conical heel. They're fantastic with all-black rocker chic outfits, too. The leather jacket is Zara, and a reader alerted me to the fact that they've still got it (or something very similar) in stores and on the website now! Yay!

Close-ups. I am all about the messy DIY nail art fades right now. This was a rich, deep blue with gradual gold glitter. Right now I've got insanely cool tiramisu-esque nails: a layer of dark, almost black cocoa brown (Zoya Angelina), one in pale gold glitter (Zoya Jules), and on the tips is a deep rich brownish-red (butter LONDON La Moss). Rings are from Crossroads (green) and Betsey Johnson (white).

Confession: We went to an awesome birthday house party in JP last night and it felt kind of really like an Oakland house party which made my heart so, so happy.

Another show update! On Friday night we saw Jack White play with his all-girl six-piece band, The Peacocks. They were fantastic. I have NO idea what happened at his show last night at Radio City, but we really enjoyed their (full) set that seemed about 1/3 Jack White, 1/3 Dead Weather and 1/3 White Stripes. We haven't seen him play since the truly magical show The White Stripes played at the Greek in Berkeley in 2005 (there we go again with that year!), and while nothing could ever touch that, their show Friday was so fun. Just insanely loud and raucous and IDK his band! the girls! the fiddler girl! the wild redhead pianist girl! the drummer! so hot!

It was all just so unexpected and it worked beautifully and so many songs were, like, OUR songs and that was especially happy since the tickets were part of my anniversary gift to M this year and romance, so. I'm rambling! Good night! Good luck tomorrow! It's Monday! It's October 1st! Get some goddamn gourds, you guys!
